PCM in MEXICO

In the 1993 Provincial Chapter, the members voted to establish the Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary in Mexico. Four members of the province were selected to prepare themselves for establishing the new mission. The province sought a diocese with a pastoral plan and eventually Torreón, Coahuila, was chosen. It is the 9th largest metropolitan area in the country and one of Mexico’s most important economic and industrial centers.

John Hertel and Joel Moelter arrived in Torreón on January 17, 1995. Tom Jordan and Bill Smith arrived later by car. Originally living near the cathedral, the pastor provided food and ministry until the Carmelites received administration responsibility for the parish of La Transfiguración de Nuestro Señor (Transfiguration of Our Lord) on February 7, 1995. It was estimated that there were 25,000 people within the 12 chapels of the parish.

Students were accepted and studied philosophy in Torreon at the local seminary. Eventually a program and house in the Tlalpan area of Mexico City were settled on and the formation program moved there in 2000. Students attend classes at IFTIM (a collaborative school of religious orders) and UIC (Universidad Intercontinental).

In 2014 annual meetings of the members of the Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary were initiated which include a day retreat as well as development of a strategic plan for the country. In 2016 additional rooms were added to the main house as the number of pre-novices in the program continues to increase. The community can now hold 16 people.
